Blinkdust
“You don’t see faster. You just stop being where you were.”
Overview
Blinkdust is an illegal stimulant designed for human physiology. It is a street drug with a strong presence in Solen’s underground racing and courier circuits. It enhances reflexes and reaction speed for a short window, then drops the user hard. Prolonged use causes physical dependency and neurological side effects.
La Organisazion controls most of the distribution pipeline. Street-level dealers cut it, rebrand it, and move it through racing circles, fight pits, and back-alley clinics. It is common enough to be a known problem and rare enough to be expensive.
Standard Blinkdust
- Color: Purple/violet powder
- Intended users: Humans
- Effects: Heightened reflexes, faster reaction time, short burst of enhanced coordination
- Side effects: Crash after the effect window, jitteriness, long-term nerve degradation
- Mechanical effects: Not yet defined.
Green Blinkdust
- Color: Green powder
- Creator: Benwull Luckyfoot Budly
- Method: Refined using an Herbalism Kit, drawing on techniques Benwull learned from his mother’s work as a healer at The Grand Poppies
- Intended users: Harengon (specifically Benwull’s own physiology)
- Effects: Same core benefits as standard Blinkdust, tuned to work safely with Harengon biology
- Side effects: One of Benwull’s eyes turned permanently green from sustained use. When pushed to full capacity under stress, the drug triggers a trauma response (flashback to carrying his mother the night she was cursed).
- Mechanical effects: Not yet defined.
Street Culture
Blinkdust is closely tied to Solen’s street racing scene. Runners use it to shave reaction time on tight corners and split-second decisions. Benwull earned the nickname “Luckyfoot” in those circuits before his mother’s curse changed everything.
The drug is not glamorous. Racers burn out. Dealers get territorial. The supply chain answers to La Organisazion, and debts tied to it tend to grow rather than shrink.
Story Role
- Central to Benwull Luckyfoot Budly’s backstory and ongoing character arc
- Connects Benwull to La Organisazion, street racing culture, and the healer knowledge he inherited from his mother
- Green Blinkdust specifically ties Benwull’s resourcefulness to his family history
- Potential plot leverage: supply disruptions, new variants, someone else replicating the green formula
Connections
- Benwull Luckyfoot Budly: creator of the green variant, former user in the racing circuit
- La Organisazion: controls distribution of the standard variant
- The Grand Poppies: Benwull’s herbalism knowledge originates from his mother’s work there
- Solen: primary market and street racing scene where Blinkdust circulates
